The Water Authority of Fiji’s (WAF) ground teams have continued to work around the clock, with safety in mind, during the recent adverse weather conditions in the Western Division.
Due to the recent continuous heavy rains, the Varaqe Dam pipeline is suspected to have collapsed and as a temporary measure, our teams installed a temporary raw water pump.
This is to provide an alternative raw water supply to the Saru water treatment plant to recover the production, while our teams work on accessing the dam to assess damages.
As can be seen in the images, our dedicated and hardworking ground teams had to wait for floodwaters to recede before they could safely install a raw water pump in order to normalise water flow.
The Varaqe Dam caters to more than 20,000 #Fijians in the areas of Natokawaqa, Field 40, MN Naidu, Rifle Range, Saru, Wairabetia, Natabua, Lauwaki, Vuda Back Road and Navula in Lautoka.
