We are responsible for providing access to quality drinking water and wastewater services to over 154,000 residential and non-residential metered customers in the urban areas of Fiji and also setting up water supply systems in rural areas.

Our current water and wastewater network constitutes more than 4932 kilometres of pipes, and we supply more than 134,000 megalitres of treated water annually to homes and businesses all across Fiji.

Our service covers 18,274 square kilometres of the 332 islands in the Fiji archipelago, of which 110 are inhabited. As of 2020, we are in our 10th year of operation.

Knowing that over 829,110 Fijians, comprising thousands of families and businesses around Fiji, rely on us for their essential daily need for water, we take our service and mandate very seriously.

Access to clean water and sanitation has been listed as goal number 6 under the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. The World Water Organisation has highlighted this year, where 785 million people lack access to safe water. 

Another 144 million are dependent on surface water to meet their basic needs. 266 million hours are spent by girls and women fetching for water daily. The global water crisis accounts for 260 billion US dollars lost each year equivalent to time spent in gathering water or seeking safe sanitation services. 

The importance of ensuring Water and Wastewater services to all Fijians is reflected in the 20-year Fijian National Development Plan. The NDP provides a national framework to ensure progressive steps are taken in ensuring continued services of Water and Wastewater. The 2013 Fijian constitution in sections 35 and 36 stipulates that access to sanitation and clean drinking water is a basic human right. 

The manner in which water is utilised in Fiji underlines the need for work by Fiji, as a whole, to address our Tariff Structure and further create awareness for water conservation. There is much work for WAF to do, to become a ‘Utility of the Future’. 

Our first goal, which is reflected in this plan, is to get the basics right. The first three years of this plan will see a consolidation of both assets and operations. This is reflective of the global financial decline, the current state of our existing assets and our culture. 

Our Strategic Plan will address all three elements of assets, culture and finances. These three key strategic deliverables are broken down to five core strategic goals. How these core strategic goals are delivered on the ground is represented in our Annual Business Plans and Personal Development Plans. 

Our key goal is to ensure continuity in providing effective water and wastewater services to all Fijians for generations to come.

What is the process and fee for a new water connection?

How much is the Lodgment fee?

  • House under construction / Vacant land / Commercial or Industrial
    • $101.00.
  • Completely built house. – [Please provide a letter from the lands department and/ or completion certificate ]
    • $21.95. [Please provide a letter from the lands department. completion certificate or Stamped Statutory declaration on the completion of the house]

Processing Time

  • Inspection to Approval – 15 Working days from the inspection date.
  • Installation – 30 Working days from payment of New Connection cost, on a first-come, first-serve basis. [Stakeholder processing may cause delays]. *Note: Approval of installation is valid for 3 months from the date of issue.

How much does the new connection cost?

  • Type A – $285 [“T” from existing connection] Type B $345 [direct connection from WAF main line]
  • New connection costs for Commercial and Industrial customers will be estimated according to requirements and a cost will be provided.
  • Road Crossing/ Service Enlargement is payable if required for additional meters requested. This will be communicated when the approval of internal and external stakeholders are obtained. WAF on behalf of FRA will refund any unused monies to the customer where applicable.
