WAF has 6 Strategic Business Units (SBUs) or departments.

1. Executive Office

The Executive Office is responsible for driving WAF to achieve the corporate vision and is headed by the Chief Executive Officer.

Supporting units in this SBU consist of:

  • Legal and Governance Unit
  • Security and Special Investigations Unit
  • Corporate Communications Unit
  • Human Resources Unit
  • Institutional Reform Unit
  • Internal Audit, Risk and Compliance Unit
  • Board Secretariat

2. Operations

Operations is responsible for the monitoring, maintenance and operations of WAF’s resources and assets. 

Operations in respective regions are headed by Managers for Infrastructure and Service Delivery and are overseen by the Chief Operating Officer (COO).

Within the SBU there are other sub-units tasked with ensuring that WAF utilises its assets effectively and efficiently:

  • Planning, Design and Construction
  • Water Assets – network distribution system, intakes, reservoirs, treatment plants
  • National Water Quality Laboratory (NWQL)
  • Wastewater Management Unit
  • Geographic Information System (GIS) Unit
  • Rural & Outer Island Water Schemes Unit

3. Special Projects Unit

The Special Project Management Unit (SPMU) manages the ‘Fiji Urban Water Supply and Waste Water Management Program’ for the Water Authority of Fiji. The Fiji Urban Water Supply and Waste Water Management Program is a Special Program provided by the Government of Fiji for the Improvement of Water and Sanitation Services for the Greater Suva Area.

The SPMU is primarily responsible for the successful implementation of the Program through the Guidelines set forth by the Government of Fiji and the various Donor Agencies that jointly co-fund the Program.

Special Projects units closely work with Asian Development Bank, European Investment Bank, Green climate fund to implement the Capital project program and undertake capacity building activities, including various studies through Donors’ Technical assistance, Loans and Grants.

4. Corporate and Commercial Services

The Commercial and Corporate Strategic Business Unit provides operational support to all SBU have to enable the services of water and wastewater to all Fijians. It further aids in efforts to work towards efficiencies with regards to operations, Non-Revenue-Water (NRW), an environment safe not only to customers but workers, compliance to properties and facilities, procurement of goods and services, providing an operating fleet of vehicles, and ICT structure for support towards automation, planning with strategic focus and control of stocks.

It is headed by a General Manager who is supported by the following Units:

  • Fleet Management Unit
  • Procurement Unit
  • Property & Facilities Unit
  • Information Communication Technology (ICT) Unit
  • Strategic Planning Unit

5. Customer Services

The Customer Services department communicates and interacts with all our valued commercial and residential customers in the three regions (Central/Eastern, Western, and Northern) about WAF’s services. Customer Services SBU is managed by a General Manager. It looks after strategic relations and communications, billing, debt management and compliance.

The key aim is the delivery of effective customer services 24/7, at least cost.  The continuous identification and implementation of improvements is mandatory.

Supporting units within this SBU are:

  • Customer Accounts Unit
  • Billing Unit
  • Call Centre – 24/7 operation
  • Liquid Trade Waste and Environment Management Unit
  • Community Engagement Unit

6. Finance

The Finance SBU is responsible for the overall financial aspects of the entire WAF business operations and is headed by the Chief Financial Officer.

The sub-units are designed with specific roles that encompass financial reporting standards that the Chief Finance Officer is tasked to oversee:

  • Payroll Unit
  • Revenue & Collection Unit
  • Inventory Unit
  • Reconciliation Unit
  • Project Finance Unit
  • Payments Unit

What is the process and fee for a new water connection?

How much is the Lodgment fee?

  • House under construction / Vacant land / Commercial or Industrial
    • $101.00.
  • Completely built house. – [Please provide a letter from the lands department and/ or completion certificate ]
    • $21.95. [Please provide a letter from the lands department. completion certificate or Stamped Statutory declaration on the completion of the house]

Processing Time

  • Inspection to Approval – 15 Working days from the inspection date.
  • Installation – 30 Working days from payment of New Connection cost, on a first-come, first-serve basis. [Stakeholder processing may cause delays]. *Note: Approval of installation is valid for 3 months from the date of issue.

How much does the new connection cost?

  • Type A – $285 [“T” from existing connection] Type B $345 [direct connection from WAF main line]
  • New connection costs for Commercial and Industrial customers will be estimated according to requirements and a cost will be provided.
  • Road Crossing/ Service Enlargement is payable if required for additional meters requested. This will be communicated when the approval of internal and external stakeholders are obtained. WAF on behalf of FRA will refund any unused monies to the customer where applicable.
