The Water Authority of Fiji (WAF) has selected a new Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Dr Amit Chanan.
After a rigorous and exhaustive international recruitment process, which was handled by renowned professional services firm KPMG, the WAF board reached a unanimous decision to select Dr Chanan. He is currently the Director of City Projects and Property with the City of Sydney, leading the city’s centre of excellence in infrastructure delivery.
Water Authority of Fiji Chairman Bhavesh Kumar announced the new Chief Executive Officer.
“I’m pleased to announce that WAF’s new CEO will be Dr Amit Chanan. He is a well-known name in the international water industry, with a wealth of experience in water management and leading business transformation. Dr Chanan will start with WAF on 28 March,” Mr Kumar said.
“Our new CEO is a member of the International Water Association’s (IWA) Strategic Council, and vice-chair of IWA’s Water Security & Safety Specialist Group. He is also on the Board of WaterLinks Inc, a Philippines based NGO committed towards capacity building in water utilities in the Asia Pacific. As such he is familiar with the challenges Fiji faces from climate change caused adverse weather conditions, especially during cyclone season, all of which greatly affect our water supply.”
Dr Chanan is an Executive Fellow of the Australia and New Zealand School of Government. Having spent his early career as a policy analyst, he has great knowledge and understanding of the machinery of Government.
Dr Chanan said he looks forward to joining the WAF team and continuing their ongoing improvement journey to provide essential services to all Fijians.
WAF welcomes Dr Chanan on board and looks forward to his leadership and his role in transforming Fiji’s water journey.
