Restoration Of Water Supply Is Progressing As Planned

The Water Authority of Fiji’s (WAF) Mechanical and Electrical team was able to quickly mobilise and replace the burnt ATS ahead of schedule, which provided some much valuable lead-time for restoration works.

The team was able to restore supply into Waila Water Treatment plant just before 8 pm last night (30/08), this assisted with recovery in supply to the majority of Nausori and the Rewa Delta areas which was achieved early this morning (31/08). As well as restoration of supply to areas feeding from Wainibuku and Tovata as the day has progressed.

Our dedicated teams are working around the clock to restore full water supply as soon as possible.

At this time, approximately 80% of supply has been restored to Nausori and Waila’s supply to areas in Suva is at 50%.

As supply continues to be restored, we urge customers with water to be water wise and use water sparingly as excessive usage does impact how quickly WAF is able to restore full supply.

Elevated areas may experience intermitted supply, this is again due to usage and reservoir levels. We encourage customers in these areas to store water for their immediate needs and to expect interruptions in supply.

We also urge customers not to tamper with fire hydrants, as this will greatly disturb our restoration efforts.

10 water cartage trucks are currently running and have been assigned to provide relief to the affected areas.

We have deployed more staff to operate our phone lines which can be reached at 1507 and 5777 for water carting requests.

WAF urges patience over the next few days and again reminds all Fijians to have 2-days worth of boiled drinking water stored at all times in case of disruptions caused by the current drought conditions and/or unplanned operational faults like these.
