The Water Authority of Fiji (WAF) wishes to advise its customers living in the Sigatoka area that they will be experiencing low water pressure to intermittent supply from now until 5pm today (29/03).
Affected Areas Include:
- Sigatoka Town
- Kedrakulu
- Olosara
- Korotogo
- Laselase
- Rakirakilevu
- Lawaqa
- Tulalevu
- Malaqereqere
- Kulukulu
The interruption in supply is a result of clogged intake raw water pumps at Matovo Water Treatment Plant due to heavy downpour experienced at Keiyasi and flooding in Sigatoka River.
The raw water pumps were blocked at 11:45pm last night and inflow into the plant was reduced. The Lawai Reservoir is at a critical level and shall gradually recover to healthy levels after the restoration of raw water supply to Matovo WTP.
WAF crew members are currently on site carrying out diving works to clean clogged raw water intake pumps and restore raw water supply to Matovo Water Treatment Plant at the earliest.
The Authority is kindly advising its customers residing in the areas above to use water wisely for their immediate needs during this temporary disruption period.
Water Carting trucks are on standby to service the affected areas during the temporary disruption period. WAF urges customers to conserve and always store sufficient amounts of water to last them for at least two to three days in their homes at all times.
WAF also encourages customers to invest in storage containers or water tanks connected to the water system for storage and backup supply during any unplanned disruption that may arise due to emergency works or natural disasters.
We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience caused and we seek your understanding and patience until such time supplies normalize.
