The Water Authority of Fiji (WAF) wishes to advise our customers that due to microalgae and increased turbidity (dirt in water) in the raw water received from the Sigatoka River, the filters at our Matovo Water Treatment Plant have been clogged, causing a reduction in water production.
This is having an impact on Lawai Reservoir water levels, which will result in our customers living in the areas listed below to experience low water pressure to intermittent supply until further notice.
We kindly ask our customers to prepare accordingly and store enough water for at least 2 to 3 days worth of use, while reservoir levels remain healthy.
Affected areas (feeding From Lawai Reservoir :-
- Malaqereqere (elevated areas)
- Whole of Olosara (elevated areas)
- Cuvu Back Road (elevated areas)
- Rakirakilevu and surrounding areas
Water carting trucks are on standby to service the affected areas during this disruption period.
Our team is currently undertaking operational works to remedy the issue, through additional filter backwashing and increased chlorine pre-dosing, until the water quality fully normalises.
We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience caused and we seek your understanding and patience until such time supplies normalise.
