The Water Authority of Fiji (WAF) has successfully replaced the defective DN300 inlet valve to the Vuda Reservoir by installing a new valve which arrived into the country on Saturday night (22/12).
WAF General Manager Customer Services and Acting General Manager Operations, Mr Sekove Uluinayau said that it was imperative for the Authority to undertake these works in order to improve the quality of service to its customers feeding from the Vuda Reservoir.
“The works involved the removal of the defective DN300 sluice valve from the Vuda Reservoir inlet which is located beside the Energy Fiji Limited’s (EFL) National Control Center (NCC). Once the crew were able to remove the defective valve, installation works of the new DN300 sluice valve to the inlet valve began immediately,” explained Mr Uluinayau.
Mr Uluinayau said the removal of the defective valve and installation of the new valve took approximately a total of six hours and an additional six hours for water restoration.
“WAF crew members started work at 8pm last night, the initial works involved the de-watering of the pressurized water main – this took almost two hours. Once the pipeline was de-watered, the removal and installation work began and works were concluded by 4:30am this morning (24/12). Water restoration began and the reservoirs were refilled progressively,” said Mr Uluinayau.
Water supply is expected to be normalized gradually by midday today (24/12).
Meanwhile, customers who require water carting assistance are requested to contact the Authority’s National Contact Centre on 334 6777 or 5777.
