The Water Authority of Fiji (WAF) would like to provide an update to the residents of Maururu Village in Ba, as well as members of the public, on the status of the water supply to the area and the work being done to resolve the supply issues being faced.
WAF Chief Operating Officer, Seru Soderberg, said that they have been made aware of the water supply issues faced by the residents of Maururu Village and WAF has mobilised its operations team to carry out repair works.
“The current disruption occurs during periods of heavy rainfall and is due largely to pipe lines being damaged by floodwaters” said Mr Soderberg.
“Repair works however are being delayed as WAF teams are waiting for the floodwaters to recede before they can begin their work – the safety of our team is also of paramount concern.
“Mr Soderberg added that WAF teams are looking into a more permanent solution to be implemented so the chances of the same issue reoccurring is mitigated in the future.
Mr Soderberg further explained that to assist the customers with their immediate needs for now, water carting trucks have been deployed to the area but access is also restricted by floodwaters.
In the interim, until the repairs have been done and the area is accessible once again for water carting, customers are encouraged to harvest rainwater for use during this time. Remember to boil water before consuming it as well.
