Installation works at the Nagado Water Treatment Plant is well underway on schedule as the Water Authority of Fiji (WAF) and its contractors work around the clock to restore water supply to its customers in Nadi and parts of Lautoka in the Western Division.
While inspecting the progress of works this morning, WAF Board Director, Kamal Gounder said that WAF was committed to complete the installation and repair works on time.
“Our teams are working around the clock to successfully complete this operation and we should complete the works by 10am tomorrow morning (30/09). We are expecting that water supply to low-lying areas be normalized by tomorrow evening and then the high elevated areas by Tuesday evening.
“In terms of the customers being affected, good news is that most of our customers living in Nadi Town, Denarau, and customers that are fed from the Black Rock Reservoir as they are getting water because we were able to commission the old main line that we used to operate before, this is providing level of water that we are able to supply to Denarau and some of the major customers in Nadi including the Airports Fiji Limited,” explained Mr Gounder.
Director Gounder said that WAF is only carting water for the other affected areas in Nadi as well as areas outside Lautoka City, and those not supplied through the Saru and Buabua Water Treatment Plants.
“I thank the residents of Nadi and Lautoka for taking head of our repeated warnings and alerts regarding the planned water shutdown. We are also thankful to the public for not vandalizing the many water tanks that we have placed around all affected areas, please continue to look after these tanks as this do not come cheap,” explained Mr Gounder.
WAF General Manager Customer Services, Mr Sekove Uluinayau said water carting trucks continue to service affected areas and refill the water tanks have been placed in strategic locations around Nadi and Lautoka tanks on a continual basis.
“A total of 58 water carting trucks have been deployed to refill the 206 water tanks (5300 and 10,000litre) that we had been placed at strategic locations around Nadi and Lautoka,” said Mr Uluinayau.
Mr Uluinayau said that after the installation works, water supply to customers residing in low-lying areas will be gradually restored and progressively to elevated areas once reservoir levels improve.
