WAF At Sigatoka Food Safety Workshop

Earlier this week the Water Authority of Fiji (WAF) Liquid Trade Waste team participated in a “Food Safety Workshop” with the Sigatoka City Council and other statutory bodies, including the Consumer Council and the Fijian Competition & Consumer Commission.

WAF’s Liquid Trade Waste Technical Officer, Ms Lidia Rokobati, in her presentation highlighted the importance of installing a proper and approved grease trap and looking after their daily discharge to avoid blocking the sewer lines.

The training was organized by the Sigatoka City Council to educate restaurant owners on the importance of adhering to the guidelines in place by governing bodies.

Sigatoka Town Council, Senior Health Inspector, Anand Pillay acknowledged the presence of WAF and said he looks forward to working with the Authority.

“We are also fortunate that the Water Authority of Fiji is continuously assisting us and we anticipate partnering with them in doing joint inspections and standardizing a checklist that will assist in the approval and evaluating of the grease trap by both statutory bodies,” said Mr Pillay.

A total of 22 restaurant owners attended the one-day workshop.
