WAF Plants Remain Operational Despite the unplanned power disruption today, all Water Authority of Fiji (WAF) plants in the Central district remain operational through generator sets which were rapidly deployed by ground teams.
“Unplanned electricity disruptions have previously had a significant impact on WAF’s ability to maintain its operations. Through the 2021-2022 Fijian National Budget we have been able to award a new contract for generator sets as emergency backup for our plants,” said WAF Chief Executive Officer, Dr Amit Chanan.
“The funding ensures WAF plants can operate during major electricity disruptions, building resilience of our water supply system.
“With the challenges of aging infrastructure combined with increased population growth in the Suva-Nausori corridor, WAF is taking a strategic approach to ensure water reaches all Fijians.
“Until Viria Treatment Plant comes online, the water demands of the rapidly increasing urban population greatly outnumbers our supply, and this is why we have intermittent supply areas — to ration and ensure no Fijian is left behind,” Dr Chanan said.
“We request Fijians to bear with us until Viria comes online allowing us to match growing water demands.”We kindly advise our valued customers to reduce wasting water and save up to 3 days of drinking water in case of a disruption.
