Restoration efforts by the Water Authority of Fiji (WAF) continue in the Western Division, following the recent week-long heavy rains and flooding which resulted in damages to our water infrastructure.
WAF teams trekked along the 300mm raw water pipeline from Waiwai Dam in Ba, having identified certain sections of the pipeline which had washed away due to severe flooding.
A temporary pump was installed by the Authority to sustain raw water flow to the Waiwai Water Treatment Plant and allow our teams to urgently replace the washed-out pipelines.
Our teams had to manually carry the pipes as well as tools and fittings to conduct the repair considering the terrain conditions of the sites where the pipeline is being laid.
Meanwhile, the Waiwai Dam has been desilted while an excavator is currently working on the Varaciva Dam clearing gravel and silt – upon clearing the dam, WAF teams will then work on restoring supply from this dam to the water treatment plant for treatment.
