We are presently experiencing low raw water inflows from our Savuloaloa intake which is impacting our Reservoir levels at Tavutikau and pumping hours to the Delainavaqiqi Reservoir.
Affected areas:
• Vunikoka
• Navaqiqi
• Buca
• Savusavu Airport
• Naseva
• Karavi
• Nukubalavu areas
The team believes the disruption is caused by the presence of air locks along the pipeline, WAF teams are currently carrying out flushing works and bleeding of air valves along the pipeline tonight (05/07) and water supply is expected to be normalised by tomorrow (06/07).
Air locks aren’t uncommon in water supply pipelines, and can be caused by air taken up by the raw water intake due to low water levels. These air locks in the pipeline then further impact on the system’s ability to recover. Flushing of the pipeline to remove the air is the only way to restore the system, as it eliminates the trapped air.
Water carting trucks are on standby and can be requested in case of an emergency by calling 5777.
We are working to rectify the issue as soon as possible and thank you for your patience and understanding during this time.
