The Water Authority of Fiji (WAF) would like to provide an update on supply restoration to our customers in Lautoka. As of last night, full restoration of water supply to all affected customers in the Buabua supply zone has been completed.
Progressive restoration to affected customers had started on Saturday morning (05/03/22), following the cleaning of clogged screens at Buabua and Nalau dams in Lautoka, and recovery of healthy water levels at Buabua and Qalitu reservoirs. As of 10:00 a.m. yesterday morning (06/03/22), 90% of the affected customers started receiving normal water supply, with full restoration completed last night.
Supply restoration was initially delayed as a result of the landslide near B.S Charan Road in Naikabula, affecting 3 lengths of DN 50 water pipes, as well as the clogging of our Buabua and Nalau dam screens last night following heavy rain into the catchment. This resulted in less raw water inflow into our Buabua Water Treatment Plant for production.
Our team cleaned the clogged screens yesterday morning and the inflow to the treatment plant is back to normal now. Repairs on the DN 50 dislocated water main have also been completed.
