The Water Authority of Fiji (WAF) confirms that our customers living in the elevated areas of Lami, especially the upper Valenicina area, which is an intermittent supply area and residents may face disruptions in their water supply, as a result of valve operations conducted between the hours of 9:00 pm to 6:00 am, on a daily basis.
These operations are done to allow for the refilling of the Tamavua Reservoir, in an effort to ensure that water levels are healthy enough to meet peak water demands from customers over the following day.
In addition to these daily operations, residents in the area would have had their water supply affected yesterday evening (30/11/2021), due to high water turbidity and damage sustained to a pump at the Waimanu Raw Water Supply.
The high turbidity and pump damage resulted in low levels being experienced at the Tamavua Reservoir and required valve operations to be carried out to maintain levels at the Reservoir and to prevent a widespread disruption from occurring.
These low levels and valve operations had subsequently depressurised the trunk mains resulting in low pressure to no water supply to the elevated areas of Lami, which include Valenicina, Waqanake, Osonabukete, Upper Qauia, and other nearby areas.
However, the damage sustained to the pump base at the Waimanu Raw Water Supply has been completed, with works currently underway to maintain a consistent water supply, that will allow for the re-pressurisation of the trunk mains and restoration of supply to the elevated customers of the Lami System.
Any water disruptions being experienced during hours outside of the daily scheduled valve operations timeframe will be investigated.
Outside of the daily valve operations window of 9:00 pm to 6:00 am, residents of Valenicina should be receiving normal supply. Our teams are currently in the process of investigating the claim that this is not the case and water supply disruptions are faced during the day as well, in an effort to identify the root cause of this issue.
