The Water Authority of Fiji (WAF) wishes to advise its customers living in the following areas that there will be a low pressure situation till Saturday (14/04/2018).
Affected Areas Include;
TOVATA SYSTEM
- Tuirara/Makoi areas
- Lower and upper Khalsa areas
- Nagatatugatu areas
- Tacirua areas
- Dokanaisuva
- Colisuva
- Princess road up to Wailoku Junction
The low pressure situation in water supply is as a result of power failures immediately after the cyclone and also due to clogging of the intakes & filters due to high turbid water.
The standby generators in Waila and Waimanu raw water pumping stations were operated to produce water during the power disruptions. However the amount of water produced was less than that under normal circumstances due to the limitation with generator capacities.
The amount of silt coming through the raw water pumping stations in Waimanu and Waila has also resulted in a high organic matter concentration in the water filters at the treatment plants, also contributing to the intakes and filters being clogged during this period.
Currently, the Treatment Plants are back in normal operation. However, the supply will be affected due to low water levels in our clear water reservoirs as a result of reduction of water production during the affected period.
Areas affected will be expecting low pressure to no water particularly in the elevated areas.
The Water Supply is expected to be gradually restored by Saturday evening (14/04/2018).
Water carts will be on standby to service the affected areas as and when the need arises.
The Authority highly regrets any inconvenience caused to its customers.
