Public Advisory: Planned Wastewater Disruption Notice – Walu Bay

The Water Authority of Fiji (WAF) would like to advise our customers along the Walu Bay area that we are nearing the completion of the construction of the new Walu Bay Sewer Pipe Bridge.

The new sewer pipe bridge will support the new DN600 FRP (Fiberglass Reinforced Pipe) sewer rising main that will connect to the existing rising main from Robertson Wastewater Pump Station (WWPS) and discharge to Argo Street Manhole, where the raw sewer further gravitates towards the Desbro WWPS.

The old service bridge has severely deteriorated with the existing sewer main. Investigations and verifications revealed signs of heavy corrosion due to age and other factors such as Hydrogen sulfide (H2S) gas in the sewer pipe as well as exposure to seawater.

The new service bridge structure and pipe are more resilient to the external environment since its columns and beams are made of concrete and the sewer pipes are made of Glass Reinforced Fiber Glass.

This caters for the Suva Central Business District (CDB) which includes hotels, hospitals, as well as residential homes and will eliminate the risk of sewer pipe collapse which would be very harmful to the environment (spillage) and pose a great risk to the health of the general public who use the corridor frequently to enter Suva City.

WAF contractors will carry out connection works from 6 pm Saturday, 25 June 2022 to 6 am Sunday, 26 June 2022 this may result in wastewater service disruptions.
