MEDIA RELEASE: WAF WORKS TO NORMALIZE WATER SUPPLY TO ELEVATED PARTS OF SUVA

Water Authority of Fiji (WAF) teams are working around the clock to get water supply normalized to customers facing low pressure or intermittent supply due to low rainfall.

“At this time we would like to urge Fijians to conserve water as water levels in both the Waimanu River and the Tamavua Water Treatment Plant are at critical levels due to the lack of rainfall being experienced,” said WAF General Manager Customer Services and Acting General Manager Operations, Mr Sekove Uluinayau.

“Water carting trucks have been arranged to service the disrupted areas.”

“WAF divers have also been deployed to attend to clear suspected blockages which are made up of mud silt at the pump water wells at the Waimanu Water Pumping Station, along the Waimanu River in Sawani.”

The raw water from the Waimanu River is pumped to both the Tamavua Water Treatment Plant (WTP) and Headworks, which is currently at a critical level in order to supply water to Tamavua WTP for treatment before distributing it to customers.

“We request members of the public in affected areas to bear with us. Unfortunately, rainfall is something we cannot control but our teams are working around the clock to normalize water supply.”

Affected areas include the elevated parts of Princess Road (Tamavua to Colo-I-Suva), Namadi Heights, Wairua, Wailoku, Samabula, Rewa Street, Waimanu Road, and Ratu Sukuna Road as well as elevated areas within Wairua, Wailoku, Delainavesi, Qauia Street to Veisari.

For water carting assistance customers are to contact the Authority’s National Contact Centre on 334 6777 or 5777 or email contact@waf.com.fj
