The Water Authority of Fiji (WAF) urges the public to refrain from abusing or harassing WAF employees.
We have received reports from our water carting team that some members of the public have verbally abused and threatened our truck drivers and tallyman staff as they were providing water carting relief to metred areas.
Last week we had two instances where the public harassed our water carting teams – the first in Sakoca, where a water carting truck was blocked on the way out of the area, and the second in Burebasaga, where stones were thrown at the water carting truck.
Fortunately, no one was injured during this ordeal.
We kindly remind the public that water carting drivers and tallyman staff are only doing their jobs and should be able to work without fear of harm.
Just like everyone else, they have families and loved ones who expect them to return home safely.
We sincerely request refraining from such acts as it is not only causing harm to a fellow human being, intimidating our water carting teams will only negatively impact our water relief efforts to communities who are in need.
Customers are more than welcome to call 334 6777, our national call centre, or the shortcode 5777, to share their issues with us so that we can assist them, rather than taking out their frustration on our innocent staff.
Those who continue to intimidate our water carting teams will be reported to the Fiji Police Force for further action.
