WATER DISRUPTION NOTICE – BA

The Water Authority of Fiji, wishes to advise its customers living in the following parts of Ba areas that they will be experiencing low water pressure to no water at times during the day from today Saturday (26/05).

AREAS AFFECTED INCLUDE:

• BA AREAS

(Part of Kumkum, Naruku, Moto, Chinakoti, Motoruku, Tabataba, Talaiya, Nasolo, Vatulaulau, Tarivo, Marinitawa, Maururu, Tauvegavega,  Namosau, Korovatu, Vutuni, Yalalevu, Nailaga, Varoko, Sarava, Navau, Navatu, Etatoko, Lavuci, Vadravadra, Natelecake, Vatiyaka, Sorokoba,Varavu, Togalevu, Nawaqarua, Natutu, Matiniqara, Wailailai)

During the recent cyclone and flooding, the two gravity transmission pipelines from Varaciva and Waiwai Dams in Ba were severely damaged. A temporary intake has been installed at the Waiwai River to supplement the demand while awaiting restoration of gravity systems in Waiwai and Varaciva. However, due to the prevailing drought, the river inflow to this temporary intake has been significantly reduced and the reservoir levels have also been affected due to this reason.

The disruption in water supply is a result of low water levels at Waiwai clear water reservoirs resulting from low raw water inflow & discharge from the Waiwai temporary pump station that is currently supplementing the Varaciva & Waiwai dam supply which were damaged during the Cyclone Josie & Keni. The restoration works now in progress with a high priority. It is expected to commission Waiwai Dam pipeline within next two weeks.

Customers residing in the areas listed above are advised to store enough and use water wisely for their immediate needs during the period. The Authority highly regrets any inconvenience caused to its customers due to the disruption as a result of unavoidable circumstances as explained above.

For water carting requests members of the public are to contact the Authority’s National Call Centre on 3346777 or 5777. Water carts will be on standby to service the affected areas as and when the need arises.

For further enquiries, customers can call 3346777 and 5777 (Vodafone, Digicel & Inkk users) or email contact@waf.com.fj
