The Water Authority of Fiji (WAF) is working around the clock to get water supply normalized to Fijians in Labasa.
As of 10 pm last night, the Authority was able to normalize supply to the Labasa Town area, Labasa hospital, and parts of Siberia. Water supply was disrupted as heavy rains had caused blockages to the Nasealevu, Navau, and Nasarava raw-water bulk mains.
WAF ground teams made numerous attempts to access the dam intakes, however, this proved futile as heavy rains continued making the Dogoru River inaccessible, as the safety of our workers was paramount.
WAF ground teams managed to cross the Dogoru River and had walked 8KM into the Nasealevu Mountain Range to clear the blocked raw water intakes.
Raw water is now being received at the Benau water treatment plant before it is distributed to customers through the service reservoirs.
Affected areas include Vunivau, Basoga, Soasoa, parts of Vunika, Batinikama, Bulileka, Mani road, Prince Andrew road, Lowcost, Bulileka Cemetery road, Urata road, Boca, Boubale, Dreketilailai, Rara Housing, Lajonia, Abua, Labasa Muslim College road, Saint Augustine road, Wailevu Village, Tabucola Tiri 1 and 2, Qelewaqa, and Bocalevu.
The areas listed above will be provided with water carting services until water supply to the affected areas has been normalized.
We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience caused.
