The Water Authority of Fiji (WAF) would like to update our valued customers in Ba on the issues that had affected the water supply during the recent major flooding.
Pictures here show a before (February 3) and after (February 13) of the dam status, following the recent long period of heavy rains and flooding.
WAF teams have begun planning options of getting the dam desilted and works will involve reinstating the access road to the dam site, hiring of excavators as well as the replacement of sections of raw water pipes which are believed to have been washed away during the recent heavy rain and severe flooding.
In the interim, a temporary raw water pump has been installed downstream to sustain production at Waiwai Water Treatment Plant and this pump will be removed until the desilting works at Varaciva have been completed and raw water supply from the dam to Waiwai Treatment Plant is restored.
The Varaciva Dam supplies raw water to the Waiwai Water Treatment Plant in Ba.
