The Water Authority of Fiji (WAF) urges Fijians to use trusted sources of news such as the Fijian Government, and to avoid falling victim to misinformation on social media.
WAF would like to correct a social media post posted on Facebook that falsely claimed that 5 Corrections Officers who had tested positive are currently isolated at the Tavua Water Authority Depot.
This is false – there are no individuals under quarantine at the WAF Tavua Depot.
WAF Board Chairman Bhavesh Kumar said that it was extremely disappointing to see people on social media spreading unverified misinformation for the sake of clicks and notoriety.
“More than ever, during these difficult times, we need to be very careful with the information we find on social media. Unfortunately, there are individuals who are seeking to take advantage of trusting Fijians and spread misinformation for personal gain,” said Mr Kumar.
“Only believe information from reliable and official sources, such as WAF’s social media, or the Fijian Government and its Ministries.”
