The Water Authority of Fiji (WAF) is currently in the process of conducting flushing works to eliminate suspected trapped air within the water reticulation systems in the Nadi area. The airlocks have been causing intermittent water supply to the elevated areas of Nadi in the last few days. WAF crew members are currently working to increase pressure on the WAF bulk main that will eliminate trapped air in the system which will result in a full restoration and normal supply to the affected areas. The following areas will experience low water pressure to no water until further notice:
- Margania
- Solovi
- Lavusa
- Masi
- Sonaisali
- Nawaicoba to Momi
- Navo Elevated area
- Malolo Top
- Mulomulo Elevated area.
- Nadovi/Micky Sonaisali junction.
Water carting trucks have been deployed to service these affected areas.
WAF Board Director, Kamal Gounder said that WAF was committed to resolving the water issues in the Nadi area and is working around the clock to get water normalized.
“WAF crew members are working around the clock and are conducting flushing operations – this process is where we open up the air valves or fire hydrants at the end of mains to release the trapped air locks which have been trapped in the reticulation system,” explained Mr Gounder.
Director Gounder also encouraged members of the public in the Nadi areas to boil all drinking water as customers are likely to experience discoloured water in their water supply as a result of the flushing operations.
WAF General Manager Customer Services, Sekove Uluinayau said that customers residing in the areas above are to use water wisely for their immediate needs during this temporary disruption period.
“Water carting trucks have been deployed to service the areas as and when the need arises and we apologize for any inconvenience that this disruption may cause,” said Mr Uluinayau.
